A greenhouse of strawberries has been badly damaged last night in Bláskógabygð. The greenhouse measures approximately 2,000 square meters and houses approximately 18,200 strawberries.

We’ve had terrible weather here lately, so we’re especially grateful for our cozy traditional lopapeysa sweaters, the beautiful woolen garments that have kept Icelanders warm for generations. They are available in our shop, and ours are hand knit right here in Iceland.

“There won’t be any berries until at least next year”, noted Hólmfríður Geirsdóttir, horticulturist and owner of Strawberry Land in Bláskógabyggð.

During the summer, his greenhouse produces 1,000 to 1,500 kg of strawberries per week. Storm damage is still difficult to estimate, but it looks like the greenhouse will be out of work for at least a season.

We have reported earlier than Iceland was hit by another severe storm. As many roads continue to be closed, check SafeTravel.is for the latest updates on weather and road conditions.
